Though I would
love to spend my days bringing old forgotten furniture back to life, it just doesn't pay the bills...yet. So I have a day job. I am an assistant/braille transcriber for the Monterey County Office of Education (MOCE). Its a great job & I
really do love braille. This weekend is the California Transcribers & Educators for the Blind & Visually Impaired (
CTEBVI for short) Conference that happens every year alternating between Southern CA & Northern CA. This year its being held in Oakland. Here's the view from my room:

I really enjoy conference. I always learn a lot about new braille techniques & technology. This year I also paid attention to the decor in the hotel. The Oakland Marriott had a few decor items I would have loved to stuff in my bag had I been able to. These for instance would have fit nicely in my bag...ok, they were too big, but well, I would have tried to make them fit...

Admittedly this would have taken me a while to take apart so I'm sure someone would have noticed before I could get it in my bag...How hard do you think it would be to make?? hmm...going to have to ponder that one for a bit...

So awesome...I'll be thinking of that black & gold mirror for a while I think...
Well, the conference wasn't all work and no play...I also stopped by the farmer's market that was a couple blocks away from the hotel.

There was some great food at this farmer's market. If you are ever there, you MUST have a green chile & cheese tamale..oh boy, was it good!! You'll notice there is not a picture of the tamale...yeah, that went down quick!!
I did however have time to take pictures of the lovely flowers.

Tulips!! So pretty! I'm
so ready for Spring! Aren't you??
So all in all it was a great time..especially because my boss & co-workers surprised me with a little party to celebrate my 10 years of service..it was so unexpected. I had lost count of the years I had been working for MCOE. I work with a great bunch of girls & I guess time
really does fly when you're having fun...
So to my MCOE VI Program girls (& April), THANKS for a great weekend & a super successful conference! Can't wait 'til next year..LAX Marriott, here we come!!
Great blog again! I noticed the light fixture and missed the mirrors...It was a good conference, and one of the best parts of it was being able to spend time with you and our colleagues. Congratulations on your 10 years of dedicated, excellent service. The VI program has truly benefited from your expertise and talents with the students and your Braille skills! <3 Kathy
